History of Medical Tourism

Medical tourism means to travel to a foreign land for a medical care facility. Medical tourism is also termed as Health Tourism or Travel Medicine.
Here we would talk about the historical aspect of medical tourism in India.
In principle, the concept of medical tourism is not something new in India. If we study the ancient travel in old civilizations for medical treatment to India which is now termed as Medical Tourism we find medical tourism in India is as old as 5000 years with the beginning of Yoga and Ayurvedic medicines and first surgery was done by sage Sushruta around 600 BC (Shalya Chikitsa). He wrote Susruta Samhita in which he mentioned 101 types of surgical equipment and 300 kinds of surgery. Study tell that in beginning surgery was mainly done mainly reshaping of body parts like nose, ears which were commonly injured due to wars in ancient time. History of medical tourism in India includes all major aspects of health. It is an ancient practice of the procedure in medical treatment. As a cosmopolitan nation; India has a rich history of Ayurveda and procedures for Ayurvedic treatment. The history of medical tourism in India also includes former Ayurvedic treatment and surgical treatment.
